LAKE BABABU: one of the crowning jewel of Dinagat Island

LAKE BABABU is one of the crowning jewels of the Dinagat Islands.

Lake Bababu

The province of Dinagat Island is surrounded by vast waters, gorgeous beaches, and packed picturesque islands.

But there is a mysterious lake situated in the forest, encircled by lush vegetation - named Lake Bababu.

Originated from the Bisaya word “Baba Buaya” which means crocodile’s mouth; named after its island pattern shape-like jaws of a crocodile.

This body of water is categorized as a meromictic lake which implies salt and fresh water do not blend

An unusual body of water tucked inside an island that has a massive cave system submerged below. Located in Basilisa, Dinagat Islands, Philippines

 How to visit Lake Bababu?
 * The gateway to Dinagat and the closest route is from Surigao City port, through sea vessels with an approximate 2 hours travel to San Jose, Dinagat.
 * Hire a local motorboat to take you to the lake.
 * 30 pesos entrance fee and 300 pesos guide fee per group.
 * It'll take you 30 minutes up to an hour to trek from its jump-off point with an uphill and downhill monkey trail.

 Tip:
One of the easiest ways to visit Dinagat is by joining an organized tour. Hassle-free itineraries and less worry about travel. I recommend the "Dinagat Island getaway"
